Short version: TC Companion keeps your personal work records on your device. Clerk handles account sign-in. Optional AI tools send selected images or documents for processing, and shared-site tools store the plan, crew progress and uploaded evidence needed for sharing. Optional Shift Weather uses your approximate location to retrieve weather from MET Norway. Google AdMob processes information to serve advertisements. We do not sell personal information.
TC Companion is developed and published by Jamie Christensen ("we", "us", or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how TC Companion handles information on iOS and Android. Some features depend on your device, platform and app version.
TC Companion stores your personal work records locally on your device, including:
Personal shift and truck records are not automatically synchronised to our servers. Information leaves your device when you choose a feature that requires it, such as sharing or exporting a report, requesting AI analysis, or participating in a shared site, as described below.
When you create an account, Clerk processes your email address, password authentication data, verification status, session information, and any Google profile details you choose to use for sign-in. We use Clerk's stable account identifier to connect future in-app purchases and scan-credit entitlements to the correct customer. TC Companion does not receive or store your password.
Android builds with live plate scanning use Google's ML Kit with a bundled text-recognition model. Live camera frames are processed on your device, including when offline; they are not saved or sent to our Photo AI server by the live scanner. Only recognised text is passed to the app for plate confirmation. Photo AI is a separate, optional action.
The app requests camera access when you choose to scan truck licence plates, scan shared-site QR codes, or capture site-plan or installation images. On supported iPhones, live plate recognition uses Apple VisionKit on-device without uploading the camera feed. This on-device feature is not available on every platform. If you choose Photo AI scanning, the captured plate image is sent through our API to OpenAI for recognition. We do not save plate images or recognised plate numbers as server-side work records. Selected images or documents are also accessed when you choose them through your device's photo or file picker.
When you approve AI plan reading, selected TGS plan images, PDFs and relevant manifest content are sent through our API to Anthropic's Claude service for analysis. Only submit material you are authorised to share. Analysis results are returned to your app. We record operational information such as request status, processing time, token usage and estimated cost to monitor the service and its usage. AI services may be accessed through Replit's AI infrastructure. Provider processing and retention are governed by their applicable policies and service terms; we do not promise that third-party processing is entirely on-device or has zero retention.
If you create or join a shared site, we store the shared plan snapshot, site name, account identifiers, crew first names, membership and setup progress on our servers so authorised members can access the same site over the internet. Installation photos you choose to upload are stored privately with their related sign, capture time and uploader information. Shared plans and progress are visible to site members; the owner can access crew evidence photos, and members can access their own uploaded evidence.
Leaving a site or ending it does not automatically delete its stored records or the owner's evidence gallery. The site owner can delete uploaded evidence using the app. Anyone you share a report or photo with may keep their own copy.
If you enable Shift Weather, the app sends your approximate current coordinates through our API to retrieve local conditions and rain forecasts from MET Norway. We do not store a location history. The latest weather result is cached on your device, and forecast responses may be cached briefly by our API to avoid unnecessary provider requests. You can disable location access in your device settings on iOS or Android.
Our hosting and API infrastructure may process IP addresses, request metadata and diagnostic information to deliver requests, prevent abuse, apply usage limits and investigate failures. We also record aggregate operational measurements for features such as AI plan analysis. These records are not a cloud backup of your personal truck or shift history. We do not sell your personal information.
Our website counts landing-page visits and App Store and Google Play link clicks. These statistics store only the event type and time, without analytics cookies, visitor identifiers, or personal information. Repeat visits and clicks can be counted more than once.
Account registration and authentication are provided by Clerk. Clerk processes account and session information to create, secure, and operate your login. You can review Clerk's privacy policy at clerk.com/legal/privacy.
TC Companion may display advertisements served by Google AdMob on iOS and Android. The advertising SDK may process your IP address, device and advertising identifiers where available, ad interactions and diagnostic information to deliver and personalise ads, measure performance and prevent fraud. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.
On iOS, we request tracking permission before accessing the advertising identifier. You can decline and still receive ads without access to that identifier. You can change this permission in Settings under Privacy & Security → Tracking. Android does not use Apple's tracking-permission prompt; advertising-ID and ad-privacy controls are available in your Android device settings, with labels depending on the device and Android version. Restricting an advertising identifier does not prevent all information needed to deliver an ad from being processed.
Optional AI services are provided by OpenAI and Anthropic. Hosting and AI infrastructure are provided by Replit. Information sent for these features is processed under the relevant provider's policies and terms.
Optional Shift Weather forecasts are provided by the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway) and used under the CC BY 4.0 licence. Approximate coordinates are sent when retrieving weather; we do not store a location history.
Use the app's deletion controls to remove local records. Your device may also keep app data in system backups or recovery storage, depending on its settings; uninstalling the app does not necessarily erase every backup. We cannot recover personal shift or truck records from a server backup.
You can delete your sign-in account from Settings in TC Companion. This removes your Clerk identity but does not automatically erase local work records, previously shared-site records or copies held by other people. Shared-site records and evidence can remain available to the site owner after members leave or the site ends. To request deletion of server-held personal information, or if you cannot access your account, contact the email below. We may need to verify your request and retain information where required for security, legal obligations or another person's legitimate shared records.
TC Companion is intended for professional use by adults in the construction and traffic control industries. It is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are published constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
